YBhg. Dato’ Baharin bin Dato’ Abdul Hamid is the Director General of the Marine Department, Malaysia. He began his career at the department as a Marine Officer in 1984 and served in various capacities including Harbour Master in Kedah, Penang, and Perlis. Dato’ Baharin was also Director of the Policy and Corporate Services Division and the Management Services Division as well as Deputy Director General of the Marine Department before assuming his current position. He is the Chairman of both the Light Dues Board of Peninsular Malaysia and the Mercantile Mariners Fund Peninsular Malaysia. Currently, Dato’ Baharin also is an Adjunct Professor at University Kuala Lumpur and Global Vice President of Mokpo National Maritime University, Republic of Korea. Dato’ Baharin received his degree in Nautical Studies from the University of Southampton, United Kingdom.
