Ms Sophia Tan serves as a Chief Engineer since 2023 in Pacific Carriers Limited on multi-purpose cargo vessels trading rubber, windmill blades, ore, grains worldwide. Overall in charge of all mechanical and electrical equipment onboard, she works closely with the vessel Master and office management team to run safe and efficient vessel operations. Beyond these routine work, you might find her climbing up 20 metres to troubleshoot the cargo crane equipment with the Electrician, or crawling in tanks for inspection.

In 2023, Sophia received the Highly Commended Seafarer Award from the Mission to the Seafarers, for taking initiative to counsel crew members, requested a crew member's compassionate sign off to attend family emergency, and proactively mentoring the junior engineers onboard. Passionate about learning and growth, she's a Chartered Marine Engineer with the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science & Technology, and currently pursuing a Graduate Diploma in Psychology (with Monash University, Australia).
